It's too generic to be useful.

  • Take a look at the 18 questions currently tagged with that. Seems like an appropriate tag to me. Broad but still useful as a categorization field. Feb 21, 2012 at 15:50
  • @NickChammas I don't think so, since configuration is NOT transferrable between RDBMS implementations. You really should at the least have mysql-configuration, sql-server-configuration, etc.

Tags are categories. You want MySQL configuration questions? You search for [mysql] [configuration]. SQL Server configuration? Search for [sql-server] [configuration]. Works better this way. Why? Because the tags are "normalized". :> Feb 21, 2012 at 16:24

Some DBMS platforms (e.g. SQL Server) have a feature called 'schema'. Re-tagging inappropriate use to 'database-design' is certainly sensible, but 'schema' itself can mean something quite specific. Dec 9, 2011 at 9:51

+1 for deletion - I'd argue that it is too localized - and that the added complication of the clash with the generally accepted meaning of 'schema' means the bar should be even higher before we accept it as a 'good' tag Mar 23, 2012 at 15:59

  • If you look at the wiki for this tag, it actually could be considered a synonym for database-design. Perhaps we need to come up with two different schema tags, one for design, the other for the logical division of tables within a database? Mar 28, 2012 at 12:43
  • Isn't [schema] also defined in the SQL standard? Aug 4, 2014 at 9:39
