My answer has changed. See the history for the previous version.

Rules:

  1. Questions should only have one version tag referring the most specific major version known or applicable.
  2. The database product tag should also be present.

Examples:

  • A question about Oracle 11.1.0.7 should be tagged Oracle and Oracle-11g-r1.

  • A question about Oracle 11g that could apply to either 11.1 or 11.2 should be tagged Oracle and Oracle-11g.

  • A question about Oracle 11g in which it is not know whatknown which version is in use should initially get the Oracle and Oracle-11g tags. If it is discovered that the question applies only to a more specific version then the appropriate version tag should replace the Oracle-11g tag.

The question should determine the lowest level of specificity. For example, if the question relates to oracle-11g without regard to r1/r2, then oracle-11g would be the lowest level of specificity and oracle-11g-r2 need not be included. My answer has changed. See the history for the previous version.

At the same time if one of the lower levels are included then the higher levels should probably be present as well. Someone interested in Oracle questions should be able to retrieve them using the Oracle tag and should not have to search in oracle-11g, oracle-11g-r2, oracle-10g, oracle-9i, etc.Rules:
